About us

Moving to a new country can be exciting, but it can also be lonely, stressful, and overwhelming. Beyond the practical challenges of starting over, there’s the emotional weight of leaving behind familiar people, places, and ways of life.

Community and emotional support are not just “nice to have” — they are essential for well-being, helping people feel safe, connected, and integrated. Without them, loneliness and isolation can grow, making it harder to adapt and feel at home. For many foreigners in Finland, finding this support can be difficult when services are not offered in ways that reflect their languages, cultures, and lived experiences.

MIELI Without Borders offers low-threshold, psychosocial support to help people feel connected, included, and understood. Through peer groups, community activities, events, and safe spaces to share experiences, we reduce loneliness and promote a sense of belonging – because you can’t talk about integration without talking about mental health.

We believe that good mental health starts with feeling part of a community. That’s why we bring people together—regardless of language, origin, ability, gender, religion, or status—to support each other and build a healthier, more inclusive Finland.

Volunteer

How it works?

We are a volunteer-led, grassroots organization, meaning our activities begin with volunteers — your interests, passions, and lived experiences. The initiatives we take on emerge from the creativity and commitment of our volunteer community. Your voice has a real influence on what we do and how we grow.
