About us
Who are we and what do we do?
Who are we?
MIELI Without Borders is a volunteer-led, migrant-driven organization dedicated to promoting and supporting migrant mental health in Finland. Our community is grounded in the belief that mental well-being starts with connection, belonging, and mutual support.
We come from diverse cultural backgrounds and lived experiences, and we work together to create spaces where people feel seen, understood, and supported — regardless of language, identity, ability, religion, or residency status.
What do we do?
At MIELI Without Borders, we focus on promoting mental health and well-being by building community, sharing knowledge, and breaking down barriers to mental health support.
Our Values
At the heart of our work are inclusion, empathy, respect, and mutual support. We believe that every person deserves access to information and community that nurtures mental health — and that bringing people together across cultures and languages makes Finland stronger and healthier for all.
Our Mission
In the future, we envision a Finland where mental health information, support, and community are accessible to everyone — across languages, cultures, and backgrounds — and where mental well-being is nurtured collectively.
Our work includes
We create low-threshold psychosocial support spaces where people can meet others, share experiences, and feel part of a community. This sense of connection is essential for mental well-being and helps reduce loneliness and isolation.
We make mental health information clear and accessible, sharing practical ways to care for and strengthen your well-being — especially for those navigating language and cultural barriers. Our activities are guided by the diversity, lived experience, and shared knowledge within our community, and may also include psychoeducation
We offer a range of community activities — from Mental Health Mondays, open and welcoming gatherings focused on different aspects of mental health, to ongoing clubs, workshops, and group activities — where people can learn, connect, and grow together.
We raise awareness about the mental health needs of non-Finnish speakers and promote culturally meaningful, inclusive approaches to well-being. We work to destigmatize mental health and create space for community-led discussion and empowerment. This may include activities like, speaking on behalf of migrants as events or representing migrant mental health on a panel about reform.
We guide individuals toward the right kind of help and services in Finland, connecting them with resources and networks that can support their well-being.
