Serene Supporting the Mental Health of Refugees
Group Activities for Vulnerable Migrant Groups
At Serene, we provide psychoeducational and stabilising group activities for people with refugee or similar backgrounds. We conduct outreach-based client work in Turku and the surrounding areas in collaboration with our partner organisations.
We work with:
- Asylum seekers and individuals receiving temporary protection
- Quota refugees
- People with refugee backgrounds and other vulnerable migrant groups
Our different group activities are available on a limited basis at any given time. If you have clients who could benefit from our services, please get in touch with us. Together, we can assess their needs and explore the possibilities for providing suitable support and activities for your clients.
In addition, we aim to support professionals and volunteers who work with multilingual individuals. We develop materials and practical models to support client work, and we provide training for professionals and volunteers in the use of our group-based methods.
We are a member of the national PALOMA network, coordinated by the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL).
What We Do in Practice?
We organise Body and Mind themed sessions and groups to support the wellbeing.
Are you a professional working with vulnerable migrant groups? Are you interested in arranging a info session for your clients?
Try exercises that support relaxation and grounding, and explore informational texts on topics such as emotion regulation, sleep, and the wellbeing of both body and mind.
Listen to exercises on our YouTube: safe place exercise, breathing exercise and progressive muscle relaxation.
As a volunteer at Serene, you will have the opportunity to support the wellbeing of people living in reception centres by helping to organise meaningful activities.
We provide training in our various activity models, including the Body and Mind Group, Mental Health Info Sessions, and Nature and Art Groups. We organise workshops, presentations, and expert talks to support the implementation of these approaches.
